What to Expect
Visiting any church for the very first time can make anyone a little nervous. Where do I go? What do I wear? What time do I show up? What’s here for my kids? What can I expect? These and many more questions can come to your mind.
Well, we want to put you at ease. Your first visit to The Harbor will be refreshing, friendly, and enjoyable for your whole family. We want our worship service to help you connect with God, through contemporary worship music, helpful teaching and preaching, friendly people, and a place where you feel welcome and “at home!” Here are a few answers to your questions about what you might expect on your first visit.
What should I wear?
Be authentic, don’t worry about dressing special. Wear the kind of clothes you would if you were going over to your friends house. We want you to be comfortable, and to be yourself.
What nursery care and classes do you have for my children?
Nursery care is provided for children 3 years of age and under, and our greeters will be happy to help you find the nursery when you arrive. We also have Children’s Church during the worship service for preschool through elementary children. Kids will be dismissed to Children’s Church after they sing a few songs with you in the beginning of the worship service.
What are your services like?
Our worship service varies from week to week, but typically begins with a time of singing contemporary worship songs together, followed by a sermon, and then closing with a few more worship songs. At The Harbor, we typically teach Bible passages verse-by-verse and help you apply God’s truth to your life. We also have a Sunday School service prior to our worship service that helps equip and disciple us further, which includes classes for youth and child care.
Do visitors have to stand up and say anything?
No, no, no. We won’t ask you to stand, raise your hand, or go to a special room. There will be a welcome card and information packet available, if you’d like to receive more information about us. Please see an usher for information.
Am I expected to participate in the offering?
If you are visiting our church, you are our guest. That means that when the donation basket is passed around, just pass it along to the person sitting next to you. Many of us pass the basket along on any given week, so you won’t stand out if you pass it on.
If there’s something we missed on this list, just give us a call, or ask someone when you arrive. Whether you’re new to the area and looking for a church home, or if it’s been a long time since you’ve attended church at all, we hope you enjoy your first visit at The Harbor. We want you to feel welcome, and even more, to feel like part of The Harbor family. Let us know how we can serve you better, and we hope to meet you this Sunday!
